Privacy policy.
This is my personal site, so the privacy approach is simple: I collect as little as possible, I do not sell anything about you, and I am happy to answer questions. Here is exactly what happens when you visit.
Analytics. I use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is doing: which pages people read, roughly where visitors come from, and what device and browser they use. This relies on cookies and similar technology, and it tells me things like “the Talks page is getting more traffic this month,” not who you personally are. I do not use it to identify you.
The search box. If you use the search field, the words you type are processed to return results. They are not stored as a profile of you.
That is the extent of it. There is no account to create, no newsletter sign-up, and no contact form on this site. If you email me, I have your message and your email address, the same as any normal email.
The analytics described above sets cookies in your browser. You can block or delete cookies anytime in your browser settings, and the site will still work. If you would rather opt out of Google Analytics specifically, Google offers a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Two third parties touch this data in the normal course of running a website: Google (for the analytics above) and my hosting provider (which keeps standard server logs to operate and secure the site). Each has its own privacy practices. I do not share your information with anyone else, and I do not sell it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information a site holds about you, or to opt out of certain processing. Since this site holds almost nothing about you, those requests are usually quick. Reach out through the contact details on my Don’t Panic Labs profile and I will help.
This site is meant for a professional audience and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from them.
If I change how the site handles data, I will update this page and the date at the top.
Questions about anything here? You can reach me through my profile at Don’t Panic Labs.
